- 3 - I want to get to know an artist, before I get too involve: and I must truly believe in the artist's work; I often prefer to follow an artis's work for two years before I decide whether to exhibit it, or not. With most of my artist's a background has been built-up: I enter into a sort of partnership with them. I invest, not only money, but also time and concentration; I attempt to do all this with an independent approach. And I expect something in return; the artist must be inspired; the work must be authentic, the artist truly involved. The visual form chosen by the artist: painting, sculpture, photography, video, graphics, is a vehicle for bringing about visual poetry, not only an end to itself. Painting attractively is not enough. Naturally, it will occur that an artist's development creates a real gap between his work and the gallery's outlook. In such a case, another gallery may show interest. You have to accept this with impartiality. I want the gallery to be still better known, that individuals interested in living art know Gallery A d K and view it as a place where art is taken seriously. This must grow further, step by step. Such a development is not assured, but unpredictable. But I am proud of the way the gallery is moving towards the future, with its favorable location, the close cooperation with its artists and excellent clientele. When the work in an exhibition sells less well, I do worry. During the past few months I have worked with joy on the preparations for the jubileum year. The mentioned book is also meant to introduce this internetsite. I see this internetsite rather as an informationbank than as a gallery substitute; an image on a screen is, obviously, a different experience from a confrontation with the work of art. The location on the Prinsengracht provides for a most varied and international group of passing-by visitors. Sometimes I believe Amsterdam is a village and I can dream about a more international position for my gallery in the future.
